Cristiano Ronaldo has left an indelible impact from the beginning of his career itself. We all know that his professional soccer journey started at Sporting Lisbon. CR7’s unwavering determination propelled him to reach groundbreaking heights over the years. Meanwhile, a former teammate of the soccer veteran claims to be closer to his skill level and jokingly asks Cristiano Ronaldo to give him one of his Ballon d’Or titles!

CR7’s compatriot was one of the standout talents in his youth career. He garnered attention with his exceptional performance and his tactical prowess. However, unlike CR7, this certain ex-teammate could not consistently keep up at the topmost level of the game and instead embarked on an entirely different journey.

Fabio Paim shared a strong bond on and off the field with CR7 during their time together in Sporting’s academy. The former soccer player seemingly appeared to have the potential to surpass Ronaldo’s legacy, but his career did not live up to the expectations. Paim never managed to secure a spot on Sporting Lisbon’s first team and only found himself in a reserve role during his spell at Chelsea. In a recent interview, he made an amusing and unexpected claim about achieving a Ballon d’Or from CR7.

Fabio Paim funnily mentioned, “If we talk about technique, I was better. He was a little Ronaldinho. But, as you can see, it is not the technique that takes us wherever we want. But yes, at that time he was better than Cristiano Ronaldo. I think you should give me one of your Ballon d’Ors!”, as compiled by A Bola.

Fabio Paim once watched Cristiano Ronaldo from prison

Fabio Paim faced a 12-month prison sentence for involvement in drug trafficking. He served a year in Caxias prison and was a stone’s throw away from Cidade do Futebol training ground. Furthermore, in the same interview, Paim mentioned how he could observe his ever-famous ex-teammate through his prison cell back in 2020, while Cristiano Ronaldo represented Portugal.

He continued, “The prison I was in is next to the field where the Portugal national team performs so I could watch them training every day for the Euro 2020 qualifiers”. This transformative time led him to realize his errors and the alternate path his career could have taken if he did not engage in such actions.
