Lionel Messi is having a gala time in Miami. The Argentinian soccer star moved to the USA after a legendary career in Europe, citing it as the perfect place for him and his family to settle. But after his arrival, it’s not just soccer, Messi even has fans from other sports on their feet. The player recently attended an NBA game between the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics, and the response he got blew away the prominent NBA influencer, Adin Ross.

According to Ross, he hadn’t experienced the crowd go as crazy as they went for Lionel Messi during the game. Discussing the situation, the online streamer said, “He wasn’t at the game, he was in a suite. But when he was on the jumbotron, it was the loudest thing I’ve ever heard in my life, like everyone stood up and clapped for Messi. It was crazy.” Messi was not present near the players, but the organizers gave him a seat in the VIP suite. And when he appeared on the big screen, the crowd started chanting his name loudly.

Meanwhile, the star was accompanied by his former Barcelona teammates, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suarez at the FTX Arena. The stars took a small break after their 4-1 win over the New England Revolution past Saturday. Wearing the Heat merchandise, the players hinted their support to the Miami team.

On the other hand, the Heat played their fourth game of the NBA playoffs on Tuesday. But to the disappointment of the Inter Miami captain and his friends, the Heat lost 88-102 to the Celtics and subsequently lost 84-118 in the fifth game yesterday, getting eliminated in the first round. It seems like Messi’s association with the NBA goes beyond his friendship with Lebron James and late legend Kobe Bryant. But more importantly, the World Cup winner ignited a passion among soccer fans in the USA.

It was evident how Lionel Messi created a buzz after he arrived in the USA. With Inter Miami season passes sold out and ticket prices reaching peaks, even the away fans’ ecstasy is only on the rise. Their game against Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium drew a crowd of over 72,000, making it one of the top ten most attended games in MLS regular season history. Additionally, their recent game at the Gillette Stadium made a record for the New England Revolution with an attendance of 65,612.

Overall, the Messi effect seems to be positive. Not only has the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner attracted crowds to the stadiums, but he has also engaged with fans outside of soccer. And with such iconic cross-sport collaborations, soccer in the USA can only expect to get more popular.
