While Cristiano Ronaldo is enjoying the winter break, many of his teammates are in action at the AFC Asian Cup. Being the leader that he is, the Portuguese talisman is following his teammates and their progress. The 5-time Ballon d’Or winner isn’t easily impressed, but a stunning goal by his attacking partner in the Saudi vs Oman fixture did manage to do so. CR7 even made the effort to express his congratulations via a text message and what he further expected next.

CR7’s next game will be a friendly against Zhejiang on January 28. Following his visit to China, Cristiano Ronaldo will be featuring in the much-awaited Riyadh Season Cup alongside Lionel Messi before the 2nd half of the RSL season.

Saudi Arabia beat Oman 2-1 and Al Nassr’s Abdulrahman Ghareeb played a huge part. Saudi was trailing until the 78th minute when Ghareeb decided to take matters into his own hands. He received the ball outside the box and dribbled past multiple Oman players before unleashing a venomous strike that beat the goalie. It was a goal very reminiscent of CR7 during his prime. It seems even Cristiano Ronaldo himself thought so as the winger received a private message from the club captain. He expressed his congratulations on the ‘wonderful’ goal. Yet, he mentioned that the expectations would now be much higher in the upcoming matches. Fair point after his inconsistent form.

Abdulrahman has scored just 1 goal in 18 league games this season. Even though he made 5 assists and is quite creative, his numbers in front of goal will have to improve considerably. The story was similar last campaign where he scored just 6 goals in 27 games. Although Sadio Mane & Cristiano Ronaldo are in fine form, they will need the 26-year-old to step up his game, if Al Nassr is to beat Al Hilal to the title.

However, this is not the first time CR7 has shown his affection and care towards the Saudi winger. His act during Al Nassr’s second league game almost broke the internet. What was it all about?

During Al Nassr’s game against Al Shabab in August, Luis Castro’s side received a penalty in the 63rd minute. Everybody expected Cristiano Ronaldo to take it, considering he was already on a brace and could have scored a hattrick. Moreover, this would have been his 850th career goal. Yet, against all odds, he handed the ball to Ghareeb.

The winger had yet to score at that point in time and it seemed Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to boost his confidence. However, he couldn’t grab the opportunity as he missed the penalty. Yet, even then, CR7 was the first to support the attacker. It looks like CR7 believes that the wonder goal will help the Saudi winger rediscover his form.

One take at a time

Soccer was the first sport I played in my life. It turned out to be my favorite one by an absolute mile. In my younger days, I became a Liverpool fan but it was only when Jurgen Klopp arrived that my passion for the game intensified.
