Kylian Mbappe is undeniably one of the most talented players of this generation. No wonder that top European teams have been behind him. Real Madrid, in particular, has been interested in the Frenchman with the transfer saga this summer going down to the wire. However, the much-awaited move ended in an anti-climax as Los Blancos ditched their pursuit for the Parisian striker.

This stunning backtracking by the Los Blancos stunned soccer fans across the world. Now that the transfer window is over, we finally have some clarity on this mystery. As per the latest reports, the reason for Real Madrid’s ditching comes from Mbappe’s price tag and their trust in the new signings they have already made.

As talented and influential as Kylian Mbappe is, spending a whopping $432 million for him would be truly absurd. The financial investment becomes even more undesirable when one realizes that the 24-year-old is in the last year of his contract. So if any team waits for a year, they can easily snatch the Paris born for free. While registering a player on a free transfer is not as lucrative as it seems considering the inflated agent fees and wages, it will still be much cheaper than spending a gargantuan transfer fee on the player.

As reported by Marca, Los Blancos, instead of Kylian, are banking on their $111 million signing, Jude Bellingham, to fill the Mbappe-shaped void for this year. The Real Madrid management expects the Englishman to combine with Joselu, Vinicius Jr., and Rodrygo to solve Madrid’s attacking woes till they sign a top striker.

With a magnanimous performance like this in the beginning, the former BVB midfielder has quickly become the fan favorite at Bernabeu. Fans already sing the popular song ‘Hey Jude’ by the Beatles for the 20-year-old, much to the delight of Bellingham. “When they were singing ‘Hey Jude’ at the end, I got goosebumps. I just wanted to turn and stand still and listen to it while my legs were shaking,” said the Englishman to Real Madrid’s social media team [via ESPN FC].
