The 2024 Olympics is hot on our heels with multiple athletes worldwide looking to realize their dreams. The coveted event will kick start on the 26th of July and the USWNT will look to make its mark. Alex Morgan played a huge role in the team’s qualification, helping them get over the line. Her heroics have given her newfound hope as she looks to travel for the Olympics. However, her path will not be that easy. She is currently a part of the San Diego Wave and her absence could give her club a massive disadvantage against their opponents. In fact, the club’s Head Coach, Casey Stones might not be too excited and stressed about the aspect of ‘looking after her’.
Stones spoke to the media, where she was questioned about Alex Morgan’s aspirations to play in the Olympics. She stated, “I think there is a plan for every individual in this team and Alex is no different. We tried to look after her last week and she came on and scored a goal. There will be periods in the season when we look after her again. There will be periods in the season where she features, and she doesn’t feature. That’s no different than any other player…We need to keep her fit and we need to look after her.”

The women’s soccer veteran talked about her Olympic aspirations during her recent Futbol Americas appearance alongside Sebastian Salazar and Herculez Hernandez. Alex Morgan addressed the change of guard in the team over the years but was excited to contribute more. She stated, “I’m still fighting for a spot. Every camp, every day. New players are coming up who completely deserve these call-ups. These players are so impressive coming into the international stage making a point to why they deserve to be on the roster”.
“I think it’s a battle but I think it makes Emma and Twila’s decisions very hard. That’s a good thing. All I want to do is make it hard for them and just keep doing what I’m doing”, she continued. Alex Morgan has had a great resurgence in the past few months after a disastrous World Cup last year. The Wave star put on an impressive showing for the USNWT during the Gold Cup and could be in contention for a spot in the team’s roster for the Olympics.
