Marcos Rojo doesn’t seem to be a player interested in following the herd. The former Manchester United man left European soccer for Boca Juniors at the peak of his powers. Yet, as per the latest news, Rojo will not be moving to the increasingly popular MLS. He made this choice against Lionel Messi‘s wishes, which certainly didn’t make it any easier. Interestingly, the Argentine defender’s decision comes when Boca Juniors is not in the best of moments.
Ahead of the upcoming MLS season, David Beckham & Co is actively strengthening the team. Lionel Messi’s pal Luis Suarez has already been signed and there are rumors that Boca Juniors striker Dario Benedetto could be the next to make a move. However, it doesn’t seem that Rojo will be following his teammate’s course.

The 61-capped Argentina international has reportedly rejected an offer to join Inter Miami. As per Martin Arevalo, Rojo told Boca Juniors chairman Juan Roman Riquelme “I stay.” This news would have delighted fans immensely. The captain of Boca Juniors was even called by Lionel Messi, but his decision was firm. However, it’s not just a reunion with Messi that Rojo decided against.

Inter Miami coach Tata Martino is someone the versatile defender knows quite well. In fact, the duo was quite successful together reaching the finals of the 2014 World Cup and the 2015 and 2016 Copa America. Rojo was also the staple of the Argentina defense, at the time. Therefore, Rojo choosing to continue with Boca Juniors rather than linking up with Lionel Messi and his former gaffer leaves more questions than answers.

Boca Juniors have failed to qualify for next year’s Copa Libertadores. They already lost the title this year to Fluminense. With 3 recent manager appointments, the sporting project at the club lacks clarity. Hence, Rojo’s decision is likely based on trust, not on money and titles.
