Chelsea have had some of the best talents in the past few years. Among the best players was Mohamed Salah, but his time with the Blues took an unexpected turn, which resulted in his loan exit. While even today the Blues’ fans believe that the winger shouldn’t have been sold, former manager Jose Mourinho also felt the same, revealing, ‘it was not him deciding to sell’ Salah.

The revelation came during a conversation with “The Obi One” podcast. The AS Roma coach cleared the air by saying that it wasn’t him who decided to sell the winger.

Jose Mourinho revealed that he thinks the opposite when people ask him why he let Salah go. The ‘Special One’ claimed that it was he who hijacked his transfer from FC Basel to Liverpool in the summer of 2014. “I made a fight—I made a war—to make him come to Chelsea,” said Mourinho. Then, the Portuguese tactician revealed the reason for his failure. “Then comes the part where, to be a Chelsea player, you need to perform or you have to wait. He didn’t want to wait. He wanted to go on loan, and then, at a certain point, Chelsea decided to sell him.”

Mourinho had allowed Salah to go on loan if the winger felt that he wanted to “play every minute.” However, he never wanted to sell the left-footed striker. Notably, Salah made just 19 appearances for Chelsea, out of which he notched two goals and four assists. He also made successive loan spells to Fiorentina and AS Roma for two seasons, until Roma permanently signed him. The rest is history, as he is now enjoying his status as a Liverpool icon, winning the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. But that might change, as Liverpool are looking to sell their Egyptian king.

One take at a time

I first kicked a soccer ball when I was 12. My early exposure to playing the sport earned me many accolades at the zonal and district levels. I still remember my first goal, where I scored a 90+5 minute header like Sergio Ramos did in the 2014 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.
