Portugal Manager Roberto Martinez is no different, as the Spanish tactician lavished praise on his captain citing his elite mentality. It seems that CR7 will continue to be an integral part of Martinez’s plans despite his advanced age.

Roberto Martinez took over the Portugal coaching position in 2023. And Ronaldo in particular would have appreciated this change considering his relationship with Fernando Santos had seemingly soured towards the end.

Martinez said, “Cristiano Ronaldo is influential, he is contagious, and he is a natural winner.” Martinez would be hoping his mentality will rub off on his teammates. Moreover, the Spaniard also spoke about Ronaldo’s drive to be the best.

Martinez explained, “He has been with the national team for 20 years, but he will play a new match with the same obsession to be the best.” Martinez also added no player has had Ronaldo’s success in a 20-year career. However, he did praise another senior player in the squad-Pepe. As per Martinez, both Ronaldo and Pepe share some qualities.
