Lionel Messi made history last week as he won his record 8th Ballon d’Or title. The Argentine, with the win, has left an ever-lasting legacy on the sport, etching his name in history books. However, it seems like not everyone is pleased with the former Barcelona star lifting the coveted award. Messi’s longtime rival Cristiano Ronaldo took a shot at the player after he posted laughing emoticons at a post questioning La Pulga’s win.

Following her brother’s actions, Cristiano’s sister has now joined the bandwagon. Katia Aveiro recently applauded a post on social media that praised her brother while taking a subliminal shot at Lionel Messi. Many fans believe Erling Haaland deserved the award, and Messi got a hold of the title just because it was his last dance. But winning the World Cup doesn’t give you brownie points? Well, ask Ronaldo and his family!

Now, while there are many answers to support one of the two sides of the spectrum, what’s done is done. Nonetheless, that doesn’t prevent fans from expressing their dissatisfaction with the decision.

Cristiano’s sister Katia Aveiro joined the fray as she took a dig at Lionel Messi while applauding a post praising her brother. Katia showered a social media post with clapping emoticons that displayed her brother with his Ballon d’Or titles, with the caption, “Earned, not given!”

She continued, “Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister responds to a post criticizing the legend Messi’s Ballon d’Or win.”

Katia seems to be following in her brother’s footsteps, who also took shots at Messi following his Ballon d’Or win. Meanwhile, Ronaldo surprised fans with a rare reaction on social media that might not go down well with La Pulga’s supporters.

Cristiano Ronaldo supports a surprising claim surrounding Messi

Spanish journalist Tomás Roncero took to social media to bash Messi, claiming the player robbed Haaland of the Ballon d’Or. The Spaniard also stated that Messi deserved just 5 Ballon d’Or titles in his career. “Hello friends, what we knew has happened, they were going to give another Ballon d’Or to Messi. He went to retire at Miami, but he was already looking like retired at PSG to prepare for the World Cup. He won the World Cup, yes, well, but with 6 penalties.”

Roncero continued, “The World Cup was 10 months ago, we’re in November. Messi has eight Ballon d’Ors well, he should’ve had five, he has the Ballon d’Ors of Iniesta/Xavi, Lewandowski who won 6 trophies in one season, and Haaland who was the top scorer of everything.”

However, while Roncero voiced his opinion, Cristiano Ronaldo left fans stunned as he added laughing emoticons under the social media post. It seems like the soccer fraternity is not the only people discontent with the decision. Cristiano has competed alongside Messi for more than a decade. So it shouldn’t be a major revelation to see the player’s reaction.
