The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr was undoubtedly a game-changer, garnering considerable attention for the club. However, for this move to happen in the first place, one player had to leave to make way for Ronaldo and that player was Vincent Aboubakar. Now, in a recent statement, Aboubakar clarified the speculation of CR7 forcing him out of the team.

When Ronaldo was on the verge of joining Al Nassr, the Cameroon-born star had six months remaining on his contract. However, due to the team’s limit of eight international players, the team ultimately banished Aboubakar to accommodate the Portuguese superstar. Despite this turn of events, it appears the 38-year-old didn’t want him to leave the team.

Vincent Aboubakar has since signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Turkish side Besiktas. 11 months after this move, he shed light on his departure from Al Nassr and revealed what Cristiano Ronaldo had to say regarding the matter. The 31-year-old stated, “Cristiano Ronaldo wanted me to stay at Al Nassr.”

This statement makes it abundantly clear that the renowned forward had no intention of forcing Aboubakar to leave the Saudi side because of his arrival. Instead, it seems that the 5x Ballon d’Or winner saw the value of the Cameroonian forward and wished for him to remain a part of the team.

Fortunately, things have worked out well for both players following the shake-up. Abubakar has been in fine form for Besiktas this season, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists across all competitions. Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo is on track to end the year as the top goalscorer of 2023. Furthermore, if recent reports are to be believed, he might be staying at Al Nassr longer than expected.

Ronaldo wants to extend his Al Nassr contract

Cristiano Ronaldo initially entered into a lucrative two-and-a-half-year contract with Al Nassr, valued at approximately $500 million. Even though the current contract is due to end in 2025, it appears that the Portuguese legend has a strong desire to continue his association with the club.
