Erling Haaland Opens Up on Banter With Manchester United Fans on the Streets

One doesn’t need to highlight the deep-seated rivalry between Manchester United and Manchester City. The two biggest clubs in England have pervaded the soccer scene for long. While one would expect the same outcome to occur off the field, Man City’s Erling Haaland defies expectations, surprisingly revealing that he and the Red Devil fans often ‘joke with each other.’
Life in Manchester has suited Haaland quite well, as he has achieved brilliant heights of success with Pep Guardiola and Co. Similar is the situation for him when it comes to being a local resident of the northwest of England. Speaking in an interview with Daily Mail reporter Jack Gaughan, he said, “I’m a football guy. It’s easy for family to come from Norway, really close. I like the vibes and positivity from fans when I meet them. The banter. English people in general. I love to joke—we are similar in Norway; we like the banter.”
Additionally, the 23-year-old forward also revealed a lighter side to the fierce city rivalry that extends beyond the soccer pitch. “People see us on the streets, Manchester United fans, we joke with each other. People leave me alone, to a certain degree. I like it. If I’m in the shop, I can joke with people, and it’s nice,” he added. Indeed, it is quite a surprising revelation from the former Dortmund man. While the city of Manchester may be divided by soccer clubs, it remains united by its people.

The reports of Haaland joining Real Madrid next summer gained traction. However, it’s unlikely that he’ll be considering leaving the Etihad Stadium. Yet, the possibility of selling him can be on the horizon if the Sky Blues end up facing the 115 charges due to financial fair play. Nevertheless, for now, we can see Haaland bantering United fans on the streets.
