Inter Miami has become the apple of everyone’s eye. What makes the team special for the forthcoming season is the return of soccer’s most captivating duo, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. While ardent supporters eagerly await to see the two amigos in action, there might be bad news surrounding Suarez’s international career as his MLS move will somehow ‘reduce his chances of staying in the national team.’

The 2024 season has a lot in store for soccer fans. Aside from the exciting domestic campaign, the impending Copa América has fans on the edge of their seats. While Messi’s presence is no question, Suarez can be a ‘persona non grata’ for his country. In an exclusive chat with EssentiallySports, Spanish journalist Nahuel Beau, who often reports on Uruguay, commented on how Suarez’s reunion with Messi can hurt his chances of making the cut in the Copa America squad. 

Beau was asked if, with Suarez’s presence, the tournament being held in the US, and his recent call-up to the national team, El Pistolero stands a chance to be selected in the squad for the tournament, considering he will be playing in the US. Interestingly, the Tenerife-based journalist replied, “He will still have a chance to go to the Copa America, yes. In any case, surely going to MLS will reduce his chances of staying in the national team.”

Notably, the last time Suarez started a match for La Celeste was during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which Beau also went to watch as FIFA even published his vlog on time with Uruguay fans in the stadium. After that, he missed a lot of games but did feature for 17 minutes against Bolivia during the WC qualifiers on November 22, 2023. While dark clouds surround his Copa America presence, he is certainly not eyeing the next World Cup campaign.

At 35, Suarez’s goal-scoring antics didn’t stop, as he impressed a lot at Gremio. While it gave his ardent fans hope to see the former Barcelona star play in the 2026 World Cup, the striker has other thoughts. In an interview, he clearly stated, “No, no, I won’t make it.” On the other hand, Lionel Messi has a much similar yet different approach.
