In the latest episode of ESPN’s ‘The Gab & Juls Show,’ hosts Gab Marcotti and Julien Laurens recently discussed Christine Sinclair’s international retirement. Both then went on to compare Sinclair and Ronaldo’s international goals for their respective nations. Marcotti questioned if Ronaldo could beat Sinclair’s record of 190 goals in 327 games by adding an extra 63 goals to his current tally of 127 goals in 203 games.

Interestingly, Laurens replied, “It’s not going to happen, I tell you that. He’s never going to beat her record. He will improve his own, and his might never be beaten.” Laurens believes that, despite Ronaldo still playing, he won’t be able to score as many goals. He simultaneously added that CR7’s own record wouldn’t be surpassed by Messi, who is just behind him with 106 goals.

Laurens then preferred not to talk about Ronaldo and rather wanted to heap praise on Sinclair’s career and everything she has done for women’s soccer. “She’s been an incredible ambassador, a brilliant player, of course, and all the things she won for Canada, obviously, especially at the Olympics, was wonderful, so we will miss her, that’s for sure,” Laurens concluded.

Indeed, these are some bold claims from the analyst. Although Ronaldo still hasn’t retired from soccer, it is doubtful that he will manage to surpass Sinclair’s record of 190 goals. Speaking of which, Ronaldo recently gave a huge update on his future.

CR7 gives a huge update on his future

After the victory against Damac, Ronaldo was approached for a post-match interview. Interestingly, the interviewer expressed a desire to see him continue playing in Saudi Arabia for many years. In response, he chuckled and said, “Step by step. For sure, for sure. I will play this year and next year for sure, and after, if my body says, ‘Cristiano, continue,’ I will continue.”

His comments imply that the 38-year-old intends to stay on the field until 2025 when his Al Nassr contract expires. Afterward, the striker will assess his options and determine if he can carry on with his career. This eliminates the certainty of a contract extension with Al Nassr. He might also just also hang up his boots.
