However, that wasn’t the case for Manchester United starlet Mason Greenwood. The young England international is currently out of action as he is under the custody of the law after being accused of domestic violence. It was back in the old days when the youngster didn’t hold back his criticism during the Real Madrid days of Ronaldo.

Mason Greenwood criticized Cristiano Ronaldo

Mason Greenwood endured a historic rise at Old Trafford. The latter made his debut at the age of 17 and established quite a name for himself. During his academy days, the player was quite a star on the pitch. He may have a good side on the pitch, but off the pitch, there were instances where the big player had a big mouth.

A recent report from the Athletic shows the other side of the youngster. It said that Greenwood had made a strong criticism of Ronaldo. At that time, CR7 was playing at the highest level of soccer with La Liga giants Real Madrid winning three consecutive Champions Leagues, while Greenwood was attending school and playing soccer at United’s academy.

Hence, while training with his teammates, the player made an eyebrow-raising comment about Ronaldo, thus saying, “He’s dead,”  Greenwood indirectly made a comment on Ronaldo’s playing time is over. However, he was instantly corrected by one of United’s staff. The staff member told off Greenwood while labeling remarks as immature.

It was later in 2021 that Ronaldo re-joined the Red Devils and would play alongside Greenwood. Nevertheless, he couldn’t enjoy much time with the club suspending the youngster following his arrest.

When will Greenwood make a return to soccer?

The last time Greenwood played was against Brentford on January 19, 2022. Soon, he was arrested just 11 days after the match, following the charges put forth against him for sexually assaulting a woman. Although last month, the Crown Prosecution Service ceased proceedings against the youngster, the player will not return to the pitch.

Today, he is still making appearances on courts rather than on the soccer pitch. Despite all the charges against him being dropped, United still hasn’t revoked the suspension. It is being said that the Red Devils would like to hold their own investigations related to the case.
