“I Absolutely Love America” – England Soccer Superstar Admits Being Eligible to Play for USA in the FIFA World Cup

There hasn’t been much luck for America in soccer. The USMNT side still dreams of lifting a World Cup trophy. While there is some good news on the USWNT front, who have won the tournament twice—the men’s side is yet to win the prestigious award.

Of course, soccer is a team sport, and players achieve laurels with a collective team effort. Yet, at some point, individual striving is also necessary for any team to excel. The USMNT squad may be good, but not the best in the world.

Nevertheless, the squad does have some decent players. The likes of Pulisic, Reyna, Adams, and Dest have made their names in the good books. In this list, there could have been one more player who would have made the USA look lethal.

England soccer star eligible for USMNT

FIFA’s rule that players who hold dual citizenship can play for either of their respective teams has really changed the game. Even today, many players in the world were born in different nations but are now representing the other side.

In the 2022 World Cup, the France squad had only a few players who were truly born Frenchmen. The remaining squad had players of different nationalities.

Moreover, the US men’s team also had an opportunity to get a player who comes from the high ranks of a European club. In a recent episode of “Men in Blazers,” Liverpool starlet Trent Alexander-Arnold revealed he could have been playing for the USMNT instead of England.

The youngster, while talking on a podcast, was asked by host Roger Bennett about his connection with America. “The connection is just that my mum is American,” said the right-back.

Trent may have been born in Liverpool. However, with his mother being American, he had a chance to represent the USMNT as his nation. However, the player instead chose to play for England.

Love for America

It’s quite unlucky for Americans who couldn’t have a player of such quality on their side. Nevertheless, the 24-year-old is enjoying a decent career for the Three Lions. The youngster has also been enduring a stellar career on the domestic front, after coming from the high ranks of Liverpool.

However, the player wasn’t shy about professing his love for the country. He was in awe of the American culture and would love to explore the whole nation.

“I love America, I absolutely love America. The culture, just the culture of it is just everything is so fun. It’s kind of laid back. I wanna like go exploring America, to be honest, because I always find that I can, disguise myself a little bit more than in Europe.” he said.

Trent’s presence in the USMNT would have been icing on the cake. Nevertheless, it was his decision to represent any nation he wanted. Who knows, during his peak career, he might come to America and play for any of the MLS clubs.
