Cristiano Ronaldo-led Al Nassr were at their ruthless best against Al Taawoun. The match was expected to be a closely fought one but Luis Castro’s side proved why they are the real deal, with a reassuring 4-1 victory. Ronaldo, who put in a fine shift, got his well-deserved goal in the 92nd minute. Following the match, the jubilant Portuguese posted on Instagram, and it seems like he’s far from ‘finished’!

The strike against Al Taawoun means the soccer icon has 20 goals in 18 league games. Ronaldo ends the year as the league’s top scorer, an immense achievement considering he is 38. Perhaps, could this be a reason for the social media comment.

Following the victory against Al Taawoun, the Portuguese star took to social media and shared his thoughts. The caption for his post read, “54 – I’ll say when it’s finished! Thanks, team!” Here, 54 refers to the number of goals that Ronaldo managed to score in the calendar year. It seems like he wants to put to bed all the rumors of his retirement.

The star ends 2023 as the leading goalscorer in the year. Behind him are Harry Kane & Kylian Mbappe with 52 each. A huge turnaround for a player who scored just 16 goals in 2022. If he continues like this, there is no reason as to why CR7 can’t continue to excel at the highest level.

Portuguese midfielder Otavio knows Cristiano quite well from their time at Al Nassr and the National team. Otavio recently opened up on Ronaldo’s plan regarding retirement. The midfielder said, “Cris always jokes that it’s time to relax, but I’ve already told him you’re going to have a great European Championship and you’re already thinking about the World Cup.”

Moreover, Otavio revealed that Cristiano is not worried right now about his eventual retirement. Per Otavio Ronaldo’s focus is having a great season with Al Nassr and participating in the Euros. The midfielder’s view is CR7 will want to continue provided his body can handle the rigours of soccer. If this season is any indicator, then Ronaldo won’t be hanging up his boots anytime shortly.

One take at a time

Soccer was the first sport I played in my life. It turned out to be my favorite one by an absolute mile. In my younger days, I became a Liverpool fan but it was only when Jurgen Klopp arrived that my passion for the game intensified.
