Inter Miami kick-started their 2024 campaign with a dismal result against El Salvador. Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Jordi Alba were subbed off during halftime after misfiring in the first half. While that was disheartening, it became worse after Facundo Farias left the field on a stretcher in the second half. He sustained a knee injury that came after an abrasive tackle from Salvadorian defensive midfielder Darwin Ceren. El Salvador drained Messi and Co. with heavy tackles. Though he did not take a stretcher, Suarez was also seen icing his knee after a tackle.

As of now, only Farias is a known casualty from the El Salvador match. However, considering that Lionel Messi, Suarez, and Alba were called back during halftime, the chances of them being fatigued or unfit cannot be ruled out.

Clippings of Inter Miami’s departure from the Estadio Cuscatlan are now doing rounds on the web. In one such clip, we see the injured Facundo Farias taking the medic’s help to get on the team bus. The 21-year-old struggled to put weight on his leg and had to be carried to the bus! Farias will most likely miss the FC Dallas outing on Monday. His availability for the remainder of the pre-season fixtures in Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Hong Kong is also doubtful.

Ceren, who brought down Farias, had also heavily tackled Gregore. But he escaped an injury. Meanwhile, Suarez’s wellness is yet to be confirmed by Tata Martino after he iced his knee to recover from a challenge. Anyhow, Farias’ injury is the latest headache for Martino who is already missing a set of fine players due to injury.

Inter Miami’s forward Jean Corentin has been missing out on matches since June 2023, before Lionel Messi’s arrival. He has missed 26 matches because of a cruciate ligament injury. Cruciate ligament tears have also marred the Herons’ defenders Franco Negri and Ian Fray. Both players have missed more than 20 matches since last July. Another Miami defender, Serhiy Kryvtsov, is out with a hamstring injury. Inter Miami’s 2020 #1 draft pick Robbie Robinson, who has been prone to injuries since his arrival, picked up another one before the El Salvador game.

Inter Miami is also missing Jean Mota, as he left for Brazil to finalize his paperwork to get a US green card. Speaking of Suarez again, it is not a good sign that he had to ice his knee during the match. Knee injuries have become a routine for the Uruguayan in recent years.
