Gone are those dominating days of Manchester United decimating their opponents! Now they are in a rebuilding phase with Erik Ten Hag looking to bring them back to supremacy. He has trimmed away plenty of deadwood at the soccer club and is striving for a fresh outlook. Yet, his reliance on some of the older players, like Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw, remains critical. And in a recent interview, a former teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo detailed his ambitions.

Rashford is one of the long-standing players at United, helping the team overcome various challenges. Last season, he scored 30 goals in all competitions and eyes a unique record. In a recent interview with Gary Neville on the Overlap, Rashford stated his ambitions.

In the interview, Rashford responded to Neville’s questions regarding breaking the club’s scoring record by stating, “Hopefully, yeah. Hopefully. You never know what’s going to happen but you know all about scoring goals and trying to make assists. So you know there’s definitely a chance that it can happen and I’ve actually spoken to Wazza about it.” Wayne Rooney is the current highest scorer for United with 253 goals. Earlier, Rooney and Rashford played together and won trophies for the club. These two players are the epitome of United, and it would be appropriate for Marcus to break the record.

He continued, “He wants me to do that. He said it would be good for me to do it because you know I’ve grown off at the club and doing stuff like that. Hopefully, I get the opportunity to try and make that happen.” Just 25, the sensational forward has already made 359 appearances for United, scoring 123 goals and creating 68 assists. Rooney’s 559 appearances, 253 goals, and 145 assists for United outstrip those numbers by a considerable margin.

These two players are the benchmarks for United players to follow, with Marcus still having plenty to prove. Playing with Cristiano Ronaldo in his teenage years, he cuts inside from the left with devastating effect as the Portuguese soccer legend did the same. Therefore, can he break the record?

Can Marcus Rashford keep scoring goals?

For United, he remains the club’s talisman in front of the goal. But injuries have always dampened his progress. Yet, he returned to devastating form last season, showcasing what he can do when he is fit. He is a natural inside forward, cutting inside from the left and panicking opposition defenses with his electric pace. Likewise, he has the composure to place the ball into the net or lob the keeper when an opportunity arises.

Every year, he keeps improving and is a potent threat to the rest of the teams. With Ten Hag bringing in new players to the squad, Marcus could lead the line for the club along with the latest recruits. Who knows? In a few years, he could break Wayne Rooney’s record, unlike Cristiano Ronaldo who left for Real Madrid!
