Cristiano Ronaldo has been the biggest headline-maker of the past week due to his interview with Piers Morgan. In the interview, he expressed his thoughts on his situation with Manchester United and various other things. Ronaldo also went on to call out the club’s owners, coach, and former players. Earlier last month, Ronaldo refused to come on as a substitute in a Premier League game for United. The club punished him while former players such as Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney called him out for his actions.

Ronaldo got back to both Neville and Rooney for their recent criticisms. While Gary Neville has responded through social media, Rooney wants him to lift the World Cup.

Wayne Rooney and Ronaldo played 5 seasons with United. While they had an incredible connection on the pitch, they weren’t the best of friends off the pitch. The two were first involved in an altercation during the 2006 World Cup. Rooney got set off against Portugal as Ronaldo was protesting his then-United teammates’ actions. However, Rooney shoved Ronaldo before receiving the red card.

Even after Rooney’s retirement, the two haven’t gotten along. Rooney recently called Ronaldo’s refusal to come off the bench ‘unacceptable’. However, despite so much happening, the former English star wants Ronaldo to lift the World cup in 2022.

Wayne Rooney would love to see Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi lift the WC in Qatar

Both Portugal and Argentina are among the heavy favorites to lift the World Cup in Qatar. Rooney obviously wants his own nation to lift the World Cup for the 2nd time. But he admitted that he would love the idea of Messi or Ronaldo lifting the trophy.

During a recent interview, Wayne Rooney was asked about the World Cup’s pressure on Messi and Argentina.

He continued, “I would love to see either Messi or (Cristiano) Ronaldo win the World Cup. It would be a fitting end to their incredible careers. I’m sure Messi will be doing everything he can to try and help Argentina win.”

Rooney has previously expressed his love for Lionel Messi. He has called the Argentinian superstar the greatest of all time and has constantly showered praise on him. In a 2020 interview, Rooney said that despite being friends with Ronaldo, he would pick Messi over him.
