Manchester City finally ended their season with a treble. The Cityzens managed to win all the domestic cups and a European Cup. In fact, they have equaled the record of their arch-rivals, Manchester United. The Red Devils also won the historic treble under Sir Alex Ferguson in 1999.
While both are significant achievements, before the match, Arsenal legend Paul Merson made a huge claim. He said if Man City won the treble by winning the UCL, then they would eclipse United’s 1999 treble win. “This would be bigger than the Man Utd one in my opinion,” he said on Sky Sports.

“I saw the other day Gary Neville’s combined team and only three City players got in. If only three of them get in, that means it’s a bigger achievement to manage it,” he added. Merson suggests that even by looking at Neville’s best XI, three City players got in. Hence, he believes it is a big achievement for them.
Indeed, it is a huge claim from the former Gunners star. Either way, it is a brilliant victory for Pep Guardiola, who managed to clinch his second-ever treble.
Pep Guardiola has done it again
Guardiola has written his name in the Hall of Fame of soccer coaches. The Spanish coach created history by winning two European trebles. In fact, it’s quite noteworthy that he did it with two different teams. After winning his first treble in 2008 with FC Barcelona, the Spaniard managed to get his second with Manchester City.

This record perfectly boosts his CV. Earlier, he was significantly close to winning the treble with the Cityzens, but fate didn’t allow him to, as he saw constant upsets in the Champions League. However, last night, luck was with them, as the only strike from Rodri was enough to end their season in a perfect way.
