It’s been well over a year since Cristiano Ronaldo parted ways with Manchester United. The Portuguese superstar has done a complete 180 to turn his career around following his move to Al Nassr. However, his former club is yet to come out of the rut, with things turning worse for Manchester United with each passing game. Former Red Devils star Anderson gave his two cents on the issue during an interview and claimed the club should have done their best to protect someone as big as Cristiano Ronaldo.

Things turned sour between the club and the Portuguese superstar in 2022. Erik ten Hag‘s arrival at the club saw Cristiano watch the game from the stands, frustrating the player to the world’s end. The matter got out of hand during the World Cup as the soccer star ripped into the club and the manager in an interview with Piers Morgan. United were less than pleased with Ronaldo’s conduct as they terminated his contract with the club within weeks. Yet, was the right move from the club’s perspective?

Ex-Manchester United star Anderson commented on the fiasco in an interview, questioning the club and the manager. The Brazilian midfielder, while talking to Globo, ripped into Manchester United’s management decision to let go of Cristiano. He stated, “When Cristiano came back. Man, it’s Cristiano Ronaldo. Protect him. Today Cristiano has 50 goals. ‘Ah, but it’s in Saudi Arabia’, but he has 50 goals. Out of three chances, he will make two, that’s a fact. And whoever plays against him is afraid.”

He then commented on the club’s downfall, adding no team was afraid of facing the Red Devils anymore. He declared, “Today, nobody is afraid of playing against Manchester. They know Manchester is taking beatings after beatings. Ronaldo arrived at a time when Manchester was under construction, and they said: Turn around, and he scored 25 goals. And then he left.”

Following their decision to part with Cristiano, the Red Devils have seen a shambolic downfall. The side has failed to live up to expectations as they were knocked out during the Champions League group stages. The Premier League hasn’t been kind to the team either, with the side currently placed 7th in the standings.

United continue to struggle under Erik ten Hag

Erik Ten Hag has been under massive scrutiny following his poor stint with the club. The ongoing campaign has been off the rails, with the team winning just 46.8% of their games this season. United have played 32 games under the Dutchman in the 2023/24 season, with the side bagging just 15 wins while suffering 14 defeats along with three games ending in a draw.

The side has found just 35 points to their name from their 22 Premier League outings and is eight points behind the top four teams in the standings. To add more to their woes, the side has scored just 28 goals in the league, positioning them amongst the bottom five clubs with the least number of goals. Erik ten Hag will have to find a way to rally his troops to turn things around in the coming week, as failure to do so could see him take the door out of the club.
