Throughout the years, Kevin De Bruyne has proven himself to be the heart and soul of Manchester City. Although the Belgian maestro faced a setback this season, enduring a five-month absence due to injury, he made a return in the new year. Aside from typical fans, a sight of relief was experienced by De Bryune’s teammate Ederson, who is ‘happy’ to have the team’s ‘king’ back in action.

Compared to the other injuries that Pep Guardiola and Co. were forced to deal with, De Bruyne’s absence hurt them the most. Currently occupying 3rd place with 46 points, Ederson hopes that Kevin De Bruyne’s availability now can help the team clinch their 4th consecutive Premier League title. Speaking for the club’s website, he said, “It’s just like chess—you have to protect the king [De Bruyne]! Now we have our ‘king’ back, one of the best assisters in Premier League history, third in the list now.”

While heaping praise on the 31-year-old midfielder’s ability to score goals and make brilliant assists, the Brazilian goalkeeper is over the moon that De Bruyne made a return at the highest level. “We’re so happy to have him back and playing good football, especially after such a long time out. He’s a player that our team missed a lot because he has such ability—he finds passes that very few players can find,” added Ederson. In addition, the 30-year-old keeper hopes that a positive result can be obtained after the conclusion of the season with De Bruyne’s comeback.

One take at a time

I first kicked a soccer ball when I was 12. My early exposure to playing the sport earned me many accolades at the zonal and district levels. I still remember my first goal, where I scored a 90+5 minute header like Sergio Ramos did in the 2014 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.
