The celebrations kept pouring in for Manchester City throughout 2023. And for Jack Grealish, it has been a time of clarification. But the star’s FIFA Club World Cup triumph turned a little rusty after he had to rule out the allegation of saying ‘Ole’.

Fluminense have qualified for the Club World Cup after a thrilling finish to the Copa Libertadores. Their team had great expectations coming into the finals after thrashing African Champions Al Ahly 2-0. The end of the game saw Felipe Melo, the former Brazilian defensive midfielder, walk towards the opponent’s unit when dropping off the field. Melo wanted to settle an issue with Grealish, who was accused of saying ‘Ole’ in yesterday’s game. But it was Kyle Walker who stood between both players and confronted the 40-year-old. Nevertheless, denying the accusation, Grealish posted on Twitter, saying, “Not once did I say ole,” reinstating that there was no disrespect.

The 28-year-old felt the need to come and make things clear as he was accused of disrespecting the club Fluminense. Melo claimed that the star was shouting ‘ole’ at the end of the game, and that was only for the fans to use and not others. The defensive midfielder also claimed that he was protecting the central midfielder, Matheus Martinelli, from Grealish.

Melo earlier said he would not tolerate the disrespect towards the club. He stated, “He was shouting ‘ole’ at the end of the game. This is for the fans, the fans can shout ‘ole’. The athlete on the field cannot be disrespectful towards the institution.” It looks like there was a clear miscommunication between the rivals after a one-sided game.

One take at a time

Growing up in a sporting background, I found a passion for soccer through the remarkable 2002 World Cup-winning Brazilian football team. Watching the Premier League where Thierry Henry-starring ‘Invincible’ Gunners and Sir Alex Ferguson’s glorious Manchester United had ruled, I had my heart set on Arsenal. However, Ronaldo Nazario, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho are my favorite players and Lionel Messi is the GOAT.
