The year 2024 is expected to be jampacked for Lionel Messi. The player already showed signs of taking things slowly when he decided not to risk injuries for Inter Miami. The player dropped out of games against Al Nassr and also Hong Kong. But this time he will face a test of fire with Inter Miami expecting him to deliver them their maiden MLS title. However, Messi could miss a crucial fixture against New York Red Bulls, for one reason.

On the other hand, you may feel that Messi would have dropped most of his national team ambitions after lifting the World Cup in 2022. Argentina has been in regular demand since lifting the trophy in 2022. And as they gear up the preparation for the 2024 Copa America, La Albiceleste will play El Salvador on 22nd March 2024, a day earlier than the fixture against New York. And the Argentine captain is expected to play in the international fixture and the player would not risk a game the next day.

This will only be the second time Lionel Messi plays against the Guanacos. The former stint was with the club kicking off their pre-season tour. But more importantly, this could mean that Messi will skip the game the next day leaving the fans disappointed. Argentina will play 2 friendly games in March against El Salvador and Nigeria in Philadelphia and Los Angeles. The game against the African nation is expected to take place on the 26th. But this time there are no club fixtures to interrupt the talisman.

Inter Miami already lost their captain during an important time last year. Even though the team had very low chances of qualifying for the playoffs, The Leagues Cup triumph under the presence of the 8-time Ballon d’Or winner raised their hopes. However, it was again an injury during the World Cup qualifiers that kept Messi away from the team. And looks like this year could land them up in a somewhat similar situation.
