The 48th edition of the Copa America is the most awaited soccer tournament in 2024. The tournament that is going to happen in the U.S. will undoubtedly provide a thrilling series of games to the fans. It will also be the perfect stage for the USMNT to prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Here are all the important details you need to know as the excitement increases.

Lionel Messi-led Argentina will look to defend their Copa America title next year. It won’t be a piece of cake for them as they will have to face off against star-studded Brazil and other talented teams, including Uruguay, Colombia, and Chile. The competition will also have six nations from the CONCACAF this time around.

When and where is the Copa America 2024 happening?

The tournament will start on 20th June 2024 and the finals will happen on 14th July. The fixture list will be released on 7th December after a draw. USA will host the tournament for the second time as they hosted the tournament in 2016. Mercedes-Benz Stadium will host the opening match of the month-long tournament. The stadium can accommodate a total of 71,000 fans. It is the second-biggest stadium in the league, whereas, Hard Rock Stadium, the home of the NFL side Miami Dolphins will host the final. The stadium has a total capacity of 65,300.

The rest of the venues will be declared as we approach closer to the tournament. It is also confirmed that Atlanta and Miami will also host the matches of the 2026 World Cup. Hence, this will be a good test for them to prepare for the mega tournament. CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez, on the eve of the announcement of the first venues, anticipated the stadiums to be filled with ‘passion’ of the American continent.

The Copa America 2024 tournament will have a total of 16 teams competing with each other for the trophy. In this, 10 CONMEBOL nations will participate. This will include Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The other 6 CONCACAF nations will be Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, USA, and two other nations among Canada, Costa Rica, Honduras, Trinidad and Tobago.

The fans will also have the opportunity to get to see players like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar, and others. In terms of backing the home team, Christian Pulisic is the one to watch out for. The Argentinian fans will hope that their hero Messi can help them retain their trophy. Whereas, Brazil continues to sweat over the fitness of Neymar. Uruguay is in brilliant form under their new manager Marcelo Bielsa after their recent famous win against Argentina.
