Lionel Messi Speaks Out on Not Being Bothered by Criticism Amid Inter Miami’s Ongoing Struggles

Who would have thought that someone like Lionel Messi could find himself under scrutiny? Even though the Argentinian superstar is the epitome of soccer brilliance, he is quite often on the receiving end of harsh criticism, especially amidst his challenges with Inter Miami. Despite the adversity, La Pulga invites critiques with open arms, asserting that they are simply a ‘part of the game.’
The honest revelation came after the 36-year-old sat down for an interview on the MBC’s Big Time Podcast. About those who frequently find fault with him, Lionel Messi responded, “Everyone has the right to criticize, and criticism does not bother me because I am the first critic of myself and I am the first to hold myself accountable. This is part of the game.” It appears that the Inter Miami captain approaches negative feedback and his own imperfections with a constructive mindset, showing little concern for the prevailing atmosphere surrounding him.
Notably, the 8x Ballon d’Or winner was under fire during his 2-year stint at Paris Saint-Germain. The playmaker faced backlash for what was perceived as a lack of professionalism towards the Parisian club and was questioned for his contribution in crucial matches. Scrutiny also arose when he experienced a UCL drought alongside his cherished club, Barcelona. The criticism persists even to this day.

So far, in 5 appearances this season, he has notched 5 goals and 2 assists. Even after a fine start, fingers are pointed at Messi. While goals aplenty could have been achieved had he not suffered an injury, the captain acknowledges how fitness issues can lead to on-field setbacks.

In a similar interview, Lionel Messi opened up about how difficult it is to keep up with injuries as he ages. “As we get older, everything is more difficult. I don’t do anything special or different from other players in moments of physical recovery,” said the legendary forward. He was quick to specify, “My profession, including my family, has always been the most important thing”. Being a true team man, he’s always gotten the support of his own teammates, however, the question is- have they done well without him? It’s a mixed bag of answers.
Currently, Messi is nursing an “overload” in his right leg. In his absence, his club suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat, which was its most recent one. Despite having the likes of Luis Suarez upfront, the club lacked that cutting edge. Unimaginably, the Argentine’s injury concerns are happening more than quite often these days. With a grueling soccer schedule breathing down the Herons’ neck, ‘physical recovery’ might just not be happening well for the captain at this age. However, it should be understood that a player of Messi’s caliber needs sufficient rest.
