A few hours back, David Beckham took to Instagram with a video of him doing regular push-ups. He clutches onto two dumbbells as a handle and goes for perfect push-ups. DB joked it was his 1000th push-up of the session by writing “998, 999, 1000” on the caption. Meanwhile Paul Scholes, instantly commented, “Think you need a bit of @scholesgym,” subtly inviting Becks to join his state-of-the-art fitness center in Oldham, England. “Think you might be right,” Becks replied to his ex-United pal.

Paul Scholes’ Scholes Gym is owned and operated by his daughter Alicia Scholes and son Arron Scholes. They both have ventured into sports, not soccer, but netball. Besides netball, they are also certified fitness trainers. Obviously, Beckham won’t take Scholes’ invitation seriously, considering it is a long hike from London to Oldham. However, Becks and Scholes continued to do business together, years after the two left Old Trafford.

When Beckham united with Scholes and other pals to give back to the sport

DB and Scholes joined Manchester United in the 92-93 season and hence are a part of the group that would later be famous as the ‘class of 92.’ The class of 92 stars, including these two and Nicky Butt, Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, and Phil Neville came together and bought a 10% stake each in the EFL League Two club Salford City. Billionaire investor Peter Lim owns the rest of Salford’s stake. Beckham was a bit late to the party, considering his commitments with other ventures including Inter Miami.

From cheering on Real Madrid to channeling an inner analyst with my pals during every other World Cup and kicking the ball timelessly, soccer is now a therapy for me with boundless conversations.
