Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds ventured into a new field in 2020 with Rob McElhenney. He bought the world’s third-oldest soccer team, Wrexham FC. While many congratulated his new venture, as per him, the response of his wife and actress Blake Lively was something else. As the Deadpool actor is popularly known for his humor sense and sarcasm, he shared how Blake reacted to the decision to buy a soccer club.

Reynold and McElhenney made this decision without even meeting each other. There were direct messages shared between the two on social media to go for it. It started first with Reynolds appreciating the work of the FX star. As a result, the duo became friends and bought a soccer club in the fifth division of the English soccer pyramid. However, when asked by Rob about his thoughts on the venture, Reynolds gave a hilarious reply involving Blake Lively.

Reynolds and McElhenney previously shared their thoughts about how their wives reacted to the decision of buying a soccer club when promoting the ‘Welcome To Wrexham’ documentary. Blake Lively’s reaction was not so great when Reynolds broke the news. The same was the case with McElhenney’s wife when she questioned her husband’s ego for sharing the owner’s space with Reynolds.

Reynolds and McElhenney are also in the news over their bid to buy a second sports team, the Ottawa Senators of NHL. Many also questioned the duo on selecting a low-tier club as their first venture into soccer.

Their decision to buy a Welsh club came from an idea of McElhenney, who wanted to buy a less-known club in the low tier. The idea was to build a club from scratch and to make it a force to reckon with in soccer. However, the decision to go for Wrexham specifically was random and based on their feelings.

Wrexham AFC plies its trade in the National League, the fifth division of English soccer. The duo’s first season as the owner went well, as the club was very close to promotion to the Football League and reached the 2022 FA Cup Trophy final. Although, they lost the chance of promotion, losing in the semifinal of the playoffs.
