French giants Paris Saint-Germain have been under the cosh recently, and so has their star player Kylian Mbappe. PSG lost heavily to resurgent English minnows Newcastle United for 4-1 in the UEFA Champions League last week, and Mbappe was scrutinized for firing a blank and performing poorly. Shortly following the loss, Mbappe has now hit out at the media after being deemed “arrogant” by the French press.

Mbappe had a night to forget against Newcastle; a game where his influence was lacking and where he was absent from critical attacks for large spells. The French forward did not even register a shot on goal or provide an assist or a key pass. This led to widespread backlash from the media in France, something he has now responded to.

Speaking to the press ahead of PSG’s upcoming Ligue 1 clash against Rennes, Mbappe spoke to the media and fired back at the slanderous reports about him after the Newcastle defeat.

Mbappe said, “I don’t understand it but I accept it, because it’s the life of a high-level player who’s highly publicized. People judge without actually being on the inside (know the whole story). And I don’t have a problem with this. I think that players who played with me, they know that my first obsession is to win, and I don’t win alone I win with the team. And a striker who scores goals, as long as he’s scoring it’s okay and when one day he doesn’t score, he’s arrogant?”

“We always find a way to that he can play with others and other things. And this is normal, I have never had problems with this. Now like I said, I accept but I don’t understand, because they’re people that are not around me and they don’t know how I behave when I’m among a group in a locker room. What should be done is ignoring them and being sure about what we are capable of doing and doing it right,” added the 24-year-old.

This interview comes shortly after Mbappe was compared to France and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry by former Manchester City wingback Gael Clichy.

As reported earlier, Former France, Manchester City, and Arsenal full-back Gael Clichy in a recent interview suggested that Mbappe reminded him of Thierry Henry. In the interview, Clichy stated, “Mbappe reminds me of Theirry Henry as he can pop up with vital goals and has so much charisma and confidence. I haven’t seen a player with this much confidence since Thierry.”

Clichy further suggested that should Mbappe transfer to Man City it would arguably be “game over” for other clubs in England. The PSG star was also heavily coveted by Real Madrid in the summer, as reports from Spain revealed that La Liga boss Javier Tebas said that the Madrid giants had enough spending power to sign “Mbappe and another player”, after the league released the spending caps for Spanish clubs this season.
