Erling Haaland’s name has become synonymous when it comes to breaking records. The Norwegian superstar once again managed to etch his name in the history books by becoming the fastest player to score 50 goals in the Premier League. But in a surprising turn of events, a Chelsea legend is giving Haaland just 60% of his full credit for his achievement.

Meanwhile, last night, Manchester City was held 1-1 at the Etihad Stadium by Liverpool. This result gives a huge blow to City as they slide down the table.

Erling Haaland would be required to share the credit with his teammates

Although the scoreline may be upsetting, Haaland’s achievement has mitigated the impact of the result. Apparently, the 23-year-old has become the fastest player to score 50 Premier League goals in 48 games. While one would acknowledge the striker for this feat, the credit for his solo efforts is being shared among his teammates by Premier League legend Frank Leboeuf.

A fan asked during ESPN’s show if Haaland’s feat was a credit to talent or due to playing at Man City. Interestingly, Leboeuf said, “Well, you have to give him some credit about that, especially today the way that he tried to free himself and control the ball and shoot.”

Leboeuf claimed the player’s hard work in training was the reason he was able to score the goal. “Now it’s true that he’s surrounded by fantastic players, who know how to serve him so I would say not 50/50, I would say 60 for him and 40 for the teammates,” he concluded.

Notably, Haaland has surpassed the likes of Alan Shearer (66), Ruud van Nistelrooy (68), Fernando Torres, and Mohamed Salah (72) in achieving the record of 50 goals. Nevertheless, it is quite an interesting claim from the former Chelsea defender. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk is being held responsible for Haaland’s feat.

Virgil Van Dijk becomes the scapegoat for Haaland’s 50th goal

ESPN’s Steve Nicol slammed Liverpool’s defence for letting Haaland score the goal very easily. While insisting Allison was helpless, he said, “You got to have a look at Matip and Van Dijk. How can you let a guy, I mean this guy’s a monster. But it almost felt as though he was invisible and nobody saw him, nobody picked him up”.

Notably, the game also saw City have the maximum possession and the highest attack. Yet they fell short to clinch three points. Nevertheless, Haaland’s feat is the only thing they’ll be celebrating.
