Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe is arguably the most prized soccer player in all of Europe. Mbappe has been linked with a move away from PSG, with Real Madrid emerging as frontrunners to sign the Frenhman. However, according to a former Manchester City player, the outside chance of City signing Mbappe would be, what he dubs as “game over” as he  further compares Mbappe to Thierry Henry.

Former Man City player Gael Clichy was interviewed recently and touched on the topic of Mbappe. This interview comes shortly after PSG’s humiliating 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United in the UEFA Champions League, a defeat that led to the global soccer community trolling the club, including one Brazilian influencer asking PSG to “eat sh*t.”

In a conversation as reported by Genting Casino Insights, ex-Man City player Clichy spoke about all things soccer. When asked about whether Mbappe could join Man City, Clichy said, “Mbappe going to City will be game-over! Mbappe reminds me of Theirry Henry as he can pop up with vital goals and has so much charisma and confidence. I haven’t seen a player with this much confidence since Thierry.”

He added, “Him going to City would be great, but as I’ve said before, the Premier League is the most challenging league in the world. Mbappe’s favourite club is seemingly Real Madrid – and that’s understandable due to their history and status.”

“The only Premier League club who I feel could tempt Kylian would be City due to Pep’s influence as well as what City have achieved over the last few years. City also have the financial muscle to maintain their status. However, Real Madrid can do all of this, too. They could create a project around Mbappe and I can’t see a reason why he wouldn’t go there. As much as I want that, I think he’s destined for Spain,’ Clichy further iterated.

Mbappe fires blank against Newcastle in the UEFA Champions League

Mbappe could not even muster a shot on goal or shot on target let alone provide an assist or score against Newcastle. The French forward was isolated for large parts of the game and barely even touched the ball, in what was a night to forget for the Frenchman.

Nevertheless, it’s fairly certain that if PSG’s results under Luis Enrique continue in the same vein, it could lead Mbappe to seek pastures anew. But whether that’s Real Madrid or Man City or another Premier League club remains to be seen.
