For French club Paris Saint-Germain, it’s certainly been a tumultuous year both on and off the pitch. PSG offloaded their star assets in Lionel Messi and Neymar, who joined Inter Miami and Al Hilal, respectively. But both Neymar and Messi were very unhappy in Paris, as the Brazilian forward stated in the media, even calling it “hell”. PSG did manage to hold on to Kylian Mbappe despite interest from several clubs, including Real Madrid. However, last night was a tough reality check for PSG after Premier League club Newcastle trounced them 4-1. This led to outrage in the media and online, all over the globe.

PSG were comprehensively beaten at St. James’ Park after goals from Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff, and Fabian Schar gave the English side a famous win on the club’s return to the Champions League. This was despite having French superstar Kylian Mbappe in the starting XI on the night. A famous Brazilian soccer social media influencer and pundit has hit out at PSG for letting Messi and Neymar leave.

Speaking to the media last month, Al-Khelaifi said, “We’re building a new identity, our own style, our own playing principles, an attacking game, and a new culture. That’s what we want, and the results will follow.” “We want our players to enjoy playing, our staff to enjoy coaching and our fans to enjoy watching.”

However, considering PSG’s emphatic loss against Newcastle last night, it could mean that the Paris club will have to fight to qualify for the next round of the Champions League. Newcastle currently leads Group F that also has the likes of AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund. However, PSG are still second in the group with 3 points from 2 games, so perhaps they’re still in a good position to qualify. Nevertheless, whether they manage to do so or not remains to be seen.
