98 days remain until the 2024 Copa America kicks off. Although the action on the field may still be weeks away, Argentina is wasting no time, as evident from their latest off-pitch revelation. Moments ago, La Albiceleste unveiled their official home and away kits that Lionel Messi and Co. will wear for the upcoming CONMEBOL tournament, prompting a flurry of reactions from the soccer world.

The announcement came through a small teaser shared on Selección Argentina’s official X account. Aside from a minute-long clip, it has a caption saying, “The champions already have their new shirts. Always, life for the colors of our country”, translated by Deepl. Interestingly, the video starts with a kid drawing a similar kit with his crayons. Simultaneously, the likes of Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria, Rodrigo De Paul, Paulo Dybala, Julian Alvarez, and Nicolas Tagliafico are featured, with some of the best moments of the World Cup also showcased.

As for the kits, Adidas has tried to mix things up this time. The home kit features significantly larger blue stripes running down the front, with the manufacturer’s logo in a golden shade. The jersey numbers, both on the front and back, are in black. However, the shorts are now black, with a golden jersey number. Meanwhile, the away kit comes in a dark blue shade, with the Adidas logo and stripes in turquoise.

Notably, both shirts have caught the attention of the soccer fraternity. This fan sadly claims it will be the last Argentina shirt that Messi wears.

In the recent Apple TV documentary titled ‘Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend,’ the 36-year-old himself revealed that he considers the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to be his final one. Notably, he hadn’t lifted the title with Argentina at the time of filming. He stated, “I will turn 36 in June, and because of the age factor, this will be the last World Cup in my career.” However, fans are reluctant to say goodbye to him just yet.

Even FIFA’s President Gianni Infantino expressed his hope for Messi’s participation in the 2026 tournament. Similarly, former Argentine stars like Ruben Insua and many others have also emphasized that La Pulga should continue to play for a few more years. Regardless, there is still time for the 2026 World Cup. Until then, the captain may reconsider his stance. His latest verdict is, “The 2026 World Cup? Considering the age I will be at that time, it seems difficult — but we’ll see”.
