Chelsea seems to have hit a snag on the road to success. The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge is anything but calm as the Blues struggle with a string of setbacks, with the latest one being the humiliating 2-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park. Even though Chelsea has splurged over $1.2 billion under new owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, a string of subpar performances has forced Mauricio Pochettino to call for more players.

As the next transfer window approaches, a critical issue arises: who will be the sought-after additions to revitalize the squad? Come along as we examine three possible transfer targets that Chelsea might contemplate signing during the forthcoming January transfer window.

Here are three players, each occupying a distinct position, who are not only some of the hottest prospects in the transfer market but are also the fitting candidates to quickly settle under the Argentine coach.

1) Center forward: Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen is the signing that even Chelsea fans are rooting for. Pochettino has witnessed his team facing challenges this season due to the absence of a designated striker. Meanwhile, Romelu Lukaku, currently on loan to AS Roma, is not in the plans of the Argentine manager. Hence, Chelsea eyes Osimhen. While his contract expires in 2025, the player has reached no extension agreement.

Regardless, acquiring his signature poses a significant challenge, as Napoli is expected to request a fee exceeding €100 million for the player in the upcoming summer transfer window. Also, the competition for Osimhen is relatively high; hence, Chelsea would be required to break the bank.

2) Right-back: Jeremie Frimpong

Reece James isn’t doing the job he is expected to. The Rolls Royce of right backs lacks form that hurts the team in games. On the other hand, Malo Gusto flirts with starts and a potential bench role by Mauricio Pochettino. Hence, the Blues can look at some fresh right-backs, and what better choice than Jeremie Frimpong? The Dutch right-back is impressing at his current club, Bayer Leverkusen, making 20 apps so far, notching six goals and nine assists in all competitions.

But he is already tied to the Bundesliga outfit until 2028 and is valued at $70 million. Perhaps Chelsea can lure him by offering a lucrative deal to both the club and the players.

3) Left-back: Theo Hernandez

Now for a controversial choice, but if they can lure Theo Hernandez, the Chelsea faithful are certainly in for a treat. The former Real Madrid man will be an excellent replacement for the injured Reece James and can help them move on from Marc Cucurella and Ian Maatsen. An inverted Joao Cancelo role can bring Chelsea to experiment with a refreshing right-back role for Hernandez.

In 17 apps for AC Milan, the 26-year-old has notched two goals and assists. Notably, his contract remains set to expire in 2026, as they marked the valuation at $67 million. Chelsea can sign him, but only after making some sales. Should Mauricio Pochettino Chelsea target these players? Let us know in the comments!

One take at a time

I first kicked a soccer ball when I was 12. My early exposure to playing the sport earned me many accolades at the zonal and district levels. I still remember my first goal, where I scored a 90+5 minute header like Sergio Ramos did in the 2014 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.
