One player who has been vocal about the financial challenges faced by the players is Jorginho, renowned Premier League midfielder. In a recent interview, Jorginho opened up about a unique aspect of his off-field role.

The Italian midfielder currently plays for Arsenal in the Premier League. Also known as “il Professore” among his Italian teammates, Jorginho is one of the Premier League’s top midfielders. The soccer star recently joined the Gunners in this summer transfer window from Chelsea.

In an interview with The Times, the midfielder shared that when he spots players splurging too much of their hard-earned income; he takes it upon himself to step in and offer some valuable advice. He said, “It can be dangerous. I’ve seen it a lot. Four out of ten professional footballers, after their career, they are broke.”

“I get the feeling if they have support — from family or friends — or if they are kind of lost. Then I see if there’s potential for me to help. Sometimes I see one car one week and, next month, another car. Then I’m like, ‘Whoa, come on.’ I need to speak with the guy. Too many watches, too many cars and diamonds and clothes and brands and private jets. And I’m like, ‘It’s a bit too much, isn’t it?” Jorginho said.

The Gunners midfielder also opened up about his incredible journey to success. At the age of 13, he left his home and joined a football academy near his hometown in Brazil. His younger days were filled with countless struggles. Determination led him to Italy at the age of 15, where he faced new challenges and opportunities.

However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the midfielder. Inexperienced and introverted, Jorginho discovered that his agent was exploiting him, paying him a mere €20 per week. While his agent was withholding thousands of euros from him. Fortunately, a fellow player brought this injustice to his attention, and it became a turning point in his life.

“In that moment, football for me was over. I wanted to go back home,” Jorginho recalled. Eventually, he switched to a new agent, a decision that continues to benefit him today.

Jorginho’s eagerness to help young players make him an inspiration to many. He connects with players through humor before discussing serious matters. One of the essential pieces of advice he imparts to fellow soccer players is to consider their future beyond the field.
