Cristiano Ronaldo is at his wits’ end. With a third straight loss against Al Hilal, Ronaldo and Co. exited the Saudi Super Cup, blowing yet another shot at silverware. Making things worse, CR7 now risks missing the remainder of Al Nassr’s Saudi League games in April. Why? Because he lost his cool and threw a temper tantrum. In the second half of the game, Ronaldo snatched the ball from rival defender Ali Bulayhi and elbowed him to the ground when he retaliated. The referee instantly pulled a red card to penalize the Al Nassr captain. As if all this chaos was not enough, rival fans in the stands instantly fired back at Ronaldo with a gesture he hates the most.

After Ronaldo elbowed Albulayhi, his Al Nassr teammates mobbed up in his support. They fiercely confronted Al Hilal stars who questioned their captain’s physical act. For a moment, it seemed like the Al Nassr entourage was dominating the scuffle. And that’s when the blue team’s fans used the ultimate weapon to get under CR7’s skin. In a viral clip on X, shot from the stands, fans could be heard raucously chanting Ronaldo’s generational rival Lionel Messi‘s name. The Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi reverberated with “Messi” chants as a lost and penalized Portuguese icon left the field.

Cristiano Ronaldo had infamously lost his cool last month after hearing ‘Messi’ chants in an Al Nassr-Al Shabab game. He had then fired back at the rival fans by obscenely pumping his hands. The Saudi League’s disciplinary committee punished the 5x Ballon d’Or winner by suspending him for a league game. Within a month, Ronaldo has now again caused a headache for the disciplinary committee.

Saudi League’s disciplinary committee could ban Cristiano Ronaldo for two games

A red card automatically calls for a suspension from the next competitive game. Therefore, Cristiano Ronaldo would miss Al Nassr’s next league tie versus Al Feiha on April 18. Additionally, reports suggest that the Saudi League’s disciplinary committee might ban Ronaldo for a second game, which is the matchup between the Knights of Najd and Al Khaleej. This means the 2016 UEFA Euro winner will be out of Al Nassr’s clashes in April. He could return in early May to play the King’s Cup semi-final against Al Khaleej.

Besides elbowing Albulayhi, Ronaldo had shown a clenched fist to the match referee, as per an untelevised clip. This reckless gesture, coupled with the knock on the Al Hilal defender, might have forced the League authorities to extend CR7’s suspension. It is yet to be confirmed if the Portuguese will be banned for two games. If yes, Al Nassr might be robbed of a chance to at least decently finish an already lost Saudi League title race.
