Manchester United are in serious trouble this season. After their thrashing at the hands of Bournemouth, they will now be without their captain, Bruno Fernandes, for their next league game against table toppers Liverpool. The Red Devils fans are already concerned with the team’s form. Hence, the absence of their club captain for an important game will be all the more frustrating.

The Red Devils will also play their final Champions League group game against Bayern Munich, with United’s chances to progress to the knockout rounds all but over. Hence, they have two big games coming up that could define their season.

Manchester United fans suffered a double setback against Bournemouth. The first one was they suffered a 3-0 embarrassing loss against the Cherries. However, the second one came in the form of suspension for Bruno Fernandes. In the 84th minute, he received a yellow card. This was his fifth yellow of this season. So according to the rules, the Portuguese playmaker is banned from the game against Liverpool. The Red Devils are already facing criticism for their performance against Bournemouth.

Hence, to miss their club captain in their game against league table toppers is a big challenge. Manchester United legend and pundit Micahel Owen has also said that Bruno Fernandes should have been more careful in the future. This is because he is almost every game by the referee for his dissent. He also made the argument the Portuguese would not fancy facing the Reds because of their brilliant form.

Reported by Manchester Evening news, Owen said, “Possibly you don’t fancy going to Anfield. I wouldn’t at the moment. I’m not sure you’re thinking of the next game when you’re in the thick of playing. He should be responsible; he should be a good ambassador and a leader for the team.”

It’s not looking good for the captain, who has also been accused of getting booked on purpose. Further, he’s also been slammed for his behavior on the pitch before. Earlier last month, after their narrow 0-1 win against Fulham, united legend and Pundit, Roy Keane, told Sky Sports, “The one thing I would do, after today having watched him again, I would definitely take the captaincy off him, 100 per cent.” He further said, “But Fernandes is not captain material. I think he’s a talented player, but what I saw today, we’ve discussed this before, I was at Liverpool last year, his whinging, his moaning, constantly throwing his arms up in the air. It really isn’t acceptable.”

Manchester United will certainly miss the creativity of the 29-year-old in the next game. And the club captain has rarely missed any of the games for the Red Devils because of suspension or injury.

The Portuguese star has remained an ever present-part of the Manchester United team

In his Manchester United career, Bruno has missed only 10 games for them in all competitions. The last game he missed was the 3-1 defeat against Aston Villa again because of suspension in November 2022. Since then, he has started all the games for the club. This shows the dependency of the team on him. He is a very vital part of the team.

He is currently the leading assist maker for the Red Devils with 3 in the league this season. In the last season, also he topped the chart with 15 assists in all the competitions. This now puts a big responsibility on other midfielders to step up.
