Inter Miami seems like a ship without a compass whenever Lionel Messi is absent. Quite literally, the Herons showcase their weaker side without the presence of the Argentine superstar on the field, and today’s match was yet another example. Moments ago, Tata Martino’s side endured a shocking 4-0 defeat against the New York Red Bulls, forcing fans to take over the internet. Even in the presence of Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets, the Florida-based club endured their 2nd defeat of the season.

Surprisingly, Miami was trailing within 3 minutes as the Red Bulls’ Lewis Morgan opened the scoring. As the home side maintained their lead within the 1st half, Morgan completed his hat-trick by adding a brace in the 2nd half, with Wikelman Carmona also making it to the scoresheet. Although Miami attempted to score a consolation goal, it was ultimately disallowed, forcing them to go back home empty-handed. The result has left many furious.

This fan not only calls Inter Miami a ‘joke‘ but also wants them to free Lionel Messi from all the embarrassment.

Lionel Messi couldn’t make himself available for today’s MLS clash as he continues to nurse his muscle injury, which he sustained against Nashville in the CONCACAF Champions League. Although Inter Miami managed to clinch an emphatic 1-3 victory against DC United in La Pulga’s absence, the New York Red Bulls proved that winning a game without the 8x Ballon d’Or winner is still a craft that the Herons lack. In the post-match interview, Tata Martino admitted that his team was ‘outplayed’, which was ‘unexpected’.

“We were outplayed from the beginning to the end of the match. We played an unexpected game for us. This is just the beginning, the team has undergone many modifications game by game”, the HC stated. There’s no doubt that the absence of players like Messi because of injuries or constrained fixtures is an unavoidable situation. However, this is no justification for a loss, especially with such a significant margin. Clearly, Miami’s defense was vulnerable today, leading them to concede 4 goals.
