Cristiano Ronaldo has been the toast of the town for decades. The Portuguese superstar remains a beacon of inspiration for millions of soccer fanatics, with his impact transcending the boundaries of the beautiful game. In a notable admission, a loanee from Manchester City has not only declared CR7 as his idol but also expressed his dream of sporting the Real Madrid jersey. Girona’s Yan Couto, recently took part in a rapid-fire round where popular sports content creator, Josep De Tena asked him several questions.

De Tana asked Couto about a club that he likes a lot but has never played for. To which he answered Real Madrid. When asked about his childhood idol, the 21-year-old succinctly replied Cristiano Ronaldo. Without a doubt, the Brazilian international seemed to have channeled his inner Madrista.

Interestingly, his Madrid fever didn’t stop there; he also declared Vinicius Jr. as his favorite player, with whom he has swapped jerseys. Couto described the fellow Brazilian winger as one of the hardest players he has ever faced.

Notably, Couto was signed by City in 2020 from Brazil’s Coritiba. Since then, he has enjoyed loan spells at Girona and Portuguese side Braga. He has been in impressive form, making 18 starts in La Liga and notching a goal and 6 assists. He has also scored a goal in his 3 Copa del Rey appearances.

Overall, Girona is playing well, as they sit in 2nd place behind league leaders Madrid but both share an equal tally of 48. Indeed, this is quite an interesting revelation from the Girona star and it must have pleased all Madrid fans to see the youngster pledge his allegiance to Los Blancos. Ironically, that wasn’t the case before, as Couto was close to signing for Madrid’s arch-rivals!

One take at a time

I first kicked a soccer ball when I was 12. My early exposure to playing the sport earned me many accolades at the zonal and district levels. I still remember my first goal, where I scored a 90+5 minute header like Sergio Ramos did in the 2014 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.
