During his managerial career, Pep Guardiola has surprised several times with his on-field and off-the-field decisions. One such decision was when he started Yaya Touré in the center-back position in the 2009 Champions League final for Barcelona against Manchester United. Today, years down the line, Chelsea legend John Obi-Mikel said that the decision did not surprise him. Speaking on the Obi One podcast, he stated,” That was a thing. I mean, you could tell there was a thing. But, of course, when you play under Pep, you have to do what he says, because if you don’t, you are not on the team, which he did for the club. Of course, you had the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, and Busquets in the midfield. You can’t argue with that.”

There is no doubt that the relationship between them has remained very complicated. However, in recent times, Yaya Touré has made an effort to improve his communication with the Spanish coach.
