Patrick Mahomes’ Netflix Documentary ‘Quarterback’ Leaves Liverpool Legend With a Late Realization

Patrick Mahomes is doing his part to spearhead the growth of soccer in the US. Mahomes has a minority stake in Kansas City’s MLS team- Sporting KC and its NWSL team- KC Current. While soccer’s popularity is growing in the US, the NFL is getting wide recognition in the UK. As the Texans Defensive end turned English soccer club Burnley’s minority owner J.J. Watt puts it, fans in England discuss NFL free agency and trade with him. Moreover, the Netflix docuseries Quarterback, featuring Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota, has enhanced England’s love for the world’s biggest sports league. Now, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says the Netflix show has taught him how soccer and football drastically differ.

Carragher likened football’s quarterback to a soccer manager. Nodding to the analogy, Watt explained how decisive a QB can be in any given football game.

In his recent appearance on ‘The Overlap’ podcast, J.J. Watt spoke at length about his English Premier League club ownership. At one point, Watt and English soccer icons such as Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, and Gary Neville spoke about the growing popularity of football in the UK and soccer in the US. Carragher intervened and shared his experience of watching Quarterback on Netflix. “I don’t know too much about it[football], but I watched a program on Netflix. I thought it was brilliant called the Quarterback. Patrick Mahomes was on it. I was thinking about the role that they have on the team. I have never seen nothing like it. It almost feels like the most important position in any sport,” said Jamie Carragher.

“I couldn’t relate that to football[soccer]. In terms of how much information they have to take. It’s almost like a manager is on the pitch,” he added. J.J. Watt immediately agreed to Carragher. He said there is no chance for an NFL team if their quarterback is not up to the mark. The Texans legend also added that he made great money solely by sacking quarterbacks.

Meanwhile, in Kansas City, in a move that could send shockwaves in both the NFL and soccer fan bases, Patrick Mahomes eyes a link-up with one of soccer’s biggest names.

Patrick Mahomes-co-owned Sporting KC is returning to the Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium after 28 years. Notably, KC plays Lionel Messi‘s club Inter Miami in Saturday’s MLS tie at Arrowhead. When KC announced this headline clash on its Instagram handle, Mahomes rushed to share the same on his stories, hinting he would be courtside to watch his team take on the mighty Messi and Co.
