“I Don’t Think So” – Pep Guardiola on Being ‘Friends’ With Jurgen Klopp Ahead of Manchester City vs Liverpool Clash

Manchester City and Liverpool are inarguably two of the best clubs in the English Premier League currently. While they may not be city rivals, the recent matches that have happened between the two teams and the quality both teams have in their squads are enough to qualify them as arch-rivals.

This Sunday, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will be taking on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in what promises to be a pulsating encounter between the two heavyweights. Before the match, in the pre-match presser, both managers had interesting comments to make about their relationships with each other.

Jurgen Klopp – “It’s true. I’m not sure if I ever told Pep, but I like him!”

Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are probably the best managers in the premier league currently. Ahead of Liverpool’s weekend clash against City, Klopp shared how he plays harmless mind games with Pep Guardiola when he means no harm in reality.

He said, “It’s true. I’m not sure if I ever told Pep, but I like him. I annoy him with things I say in press conferences that are not meant to say anything bad about him or Man City.”

“Somebody on the City staff tells him that ‘Klopp said this’ and I can see in his conference he gets really angry. Sorry for that! “No, I respect him a lot. I want to win desperately. He wants to do that, and we are completely different personalities, but nonetheless, I like him and I respect him.”

 

Pep Guardiola – “That’s the reason I’m still in this business.”

Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, also showed respect and admiration towards the Liverpool manager. Speaking to Football DailyUK, he iterated how much he respected the Liverpool manager and whether he was friends with Klopp.

He said, “I don’t think so… but I have a lot of respect for many… for a few and Jurgen is one of them. I learn a lot and he made me a better manager. He brings me a step to think and solve problems that teams create against us”

He then continued to praise Klopp and said how managers like him are the reason he continues thriving in the business. “That is the reason why I am still in this business. Some managers and Jurgen is one of them challenge you to make a step forward.”

While Klopp and Guardiola were full of mutual admiration towards each other. During the match, both managers will be trying to get a victory over the other. City and Liverpool are amongst the top title contenders this season and a victory in this match could go a long way for both teams.
