After staying unbeaten since the start of the season, Liverpool finally lost a game against the bubbly West Ham United. However, things did not go to plan for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. He looked annoyed with the referring decisions in the game, especially the first goal that West Ham scored.

The first goal saw Alisson missing the ball as he went to clear it from a corner, but Klopp interpreted it otherwise.

Jurgen Klopp wanted a foul

The game saw Liverpool going down in the first half after four minutes when Fornals took a corner kick as Alisson misjudged the flight of the ball and scored an own goal. However, Klopp believes that the Liverpool goalkeeper got fouled during that passage of play, which led him to miss the ball.

Klopp believed Angelo Ogbonna fouled the player in lead to the goal. Although VAR intervened and checked the decision, they did not get a foul. This left a bemused Jurgen Klopp searching for answers and the quality of refereeing in the league.

Cresswell’s reckless challenge

Not only that, soon after the goal, Aaron Cresswell escaped a reckless challenge on Jordan Henderson, which angered the coach. The player put in a high tackle on Henderson as the referee deemed it to be not reckless. Klopp questioned the decision and wanted punishment for the challenge.

“Cresswell? For me it’s a reckless challenge. Even though he touches the ball, you can’t go in like that as anything can happen. You can say he touched the ball but you have to control your body… Those two situations were influential in the game but in the end West Ham fought for the three points. They are not responsible for the decisions the VAR made,” said Klopp.

Despite those raised doubts, West Ham performed well in the match and recorded a sensational victory. David Moyes is weaving his magic with the club and now fans are truly believing in what he does. With Declan Rice at the heart of the midfield, they have a player with immense potential and would hope to keep him at the club for years to come.

Despite all the referring decisions, Jurgen Klopp will look to take some positives away from the game as they meet Arsenal after the international break.
