However, Tsitsipas is still seeking a breakthrough that will put him up there with the Big 3 of the game.
The Greek tennis sensation is proud of his origins and even went on to label himself a “Greek God”. Given the standards he has set for himself, it is indeed understandable that Tsitsipas wants to reach his full potential. And he has one advantage, which is his age. If fitness doesn’t eventually become an issue for the young man, Tsitsipas has the potential to break many ATP records.

Mouratoglou backs Stefanos Tsitsipas
Tsitsipas’ teacher Patrick Mouratoglou feels that his student has already started showing his talent on the court. The 50-year old French also believes that it is just a matter of time before Tsitsipas gets a breakthrough.
In an interview with Essentially Sports, he said, “I think he might make his breakthrough anytime. He’s won, as you mentioned, the ATP finals, he’s reached also the semifinals of the Australian Open, he’s beaten all the top players at least once, beaten Nadal on clay in Madrid, beaten Djokovic in the Masters 1000, Roger in a grand slam, he’s not far. But on the other hand, winning a grand slam today, against the greatest players of all time is the most challenging in tennis history.”

Mouratoglo also revealed that Tsitsipas wants to win a Grand Slam badly. He continued, “When he lost to Rafa in the semifinals of the Australian Open, he had beaten roger, and to win the tournament he would’ve had to beat Rafa in the semis and then Novak in the finals. How challenging is that? It’s incredible. But I’m sure he’s going to make it at some point because he really wants it deep inside himself and he really has the potential to do it. So, it’s going to happen.”

A Promising Future
The winner of the 2019 Nitto ATP Finals has already won five singles titles. But he is eager to win Grand Slams. And he is confident about his ability to do so. As we speak, Tsitsipas’ best performance in a major tournament was last year when he beat Roger Federer at the Australian Open to reach the semi-finals. But he doesn’t want to stay content with a last-four spot.

Earlier in June, while speaking to Tennis Major, Tsitsipas said, “People always ask me when am I or the Next Gen going to win a Grand Slam. I feel it is going to come if you wait, you don’t have to ask the same question every single time. I do feel that I am capable of winning Grand Slams, it’s not that I am not capable. I’ve proven myself at the Nitto ATP Finals. I was the last player standing out of all eight, which for sure meant something – it’s not accidental you know?”
Stefanos Tsitsipas was always confident of himself. Now that his coach is also showing enormous trust in his abilities, it would be interesting to see how quick can he clinch his first major title.
