“Tennis Can Feel Empty”: Nick Kyrgios Dwells on His Purpose of Playing Tennis

One of the most unpredictable personalities in tennis, the Australian professional Nick Kyrgios has always been a treat to watch. His on and off the court antics have often left the tennis fans asking for more from him. However, streamlining his focus, the 25 years-old aims to play tennis for a bigger reason. And to achieve that, he has built the Nick Kyrgios Foundation.
At 14 years of age, Kyrgios decided to pursue tennis entirely. Later on, he became the Australian Open boys’ singles’ winner and Wimbledon boys’ doubles winner in 2013. As a professional, the World No. 45 is one of the three players to defeat the Big Three in their first encounter with them. In a recent tweet from the NK Foundation, it seems like Nick is finally coming through his own way.

The Australian has reached his highest-ranking of 13 and won six ATP titles in a career. Without a coach and regular misconducts on the court, many experts believed that Nick is incorrigible. Turning the page, he’s found the meaning behind his actions and wants to give back to his community.
“For the first time, I feel like there is a reason for what I am doing. Tennis is a great life – but it can feel empty if you’re just doing it for the money. With the NK Foundation, my journey also supports disadvantaged kids in the community. I’m playing for them now,” read the tweet.

Nick is commonly regarded as a high-potential athlete, and this will certainly help him contribute on a larger scale. Previously, he also collaborated with Old El Paso to give free meals to underprivileged families in Australia. Also, he contributed to the bushfire massacre that took place earlier this year.

Next for Nick: 2021 Australian Open
Withdrawing his participation from the US Open due to the pandemic outbreak, Kyrgios ended his 2020 season early. Earlier in the year, he played the longest match of his career at the Australian Open with Karen Khachanov. He won 6–2, 7–6, 6–7, 6–7, 7–6 before failing against Rafael Nadal in the fourth round.
