The 2019 Barcelona Open was a special one for Austrian star Dominic Thiem. There, he played some of his best tennis and beat players like Rafael Nadal to win his first-ever title at the event. Considering this success, many would expect the World No. 4 to play the event in 2021; unfortunately, that won’t be happening.
Recently, Dominic’s father revealed that he will be choosing Belgrade instead of Barcelona. According to him, he had a good time playing there as part of the Adria tour last year, and he also has gotten an invitation from a good friend.
“Djokovic asked him to play and he accepted. Dominic is looking forward to play in front of a crowd again,” said Wolfgang Thiem.

2020 was a great year for Dominic Thiem as he won his first Major at the US Open. However, after the win, the Austrian struggled with form, and this struggle has carried into 2021.
At the Australian Open, he was knocked out in the 4th round, and later, at the Dubai Open, he lost his very first match. These are clearly poor results, and Thiem is surely not happy about that. He will want to improve his form immediately and he can do that in the upcoming clay-court season.

After this, Thiem is scheduled to play in Belgrade after being invited by Novak Djokovic. The Serbian Open already has two top players, which is why fans can expect a great tournament when it begins in April.
