The Argentine skyscraper Juan Martin del Potro is facing a rough time. He hasn’t played since June 2019 due to his right knee problems. To make matters worse, the ATP champ recently lost his father.
Since his knee isn’t fully fit for playing tennis, the 2009 US Open champion will undergo his fourth consecutive right knee surgery in Chicago, Illinois.
“Hey there! I wanted to say hello and tell you I’m currently in Chicago. I’ve been consulting Dr. Jorge Chahla and the news is that tomorrow I’ll undergo another surgery on my knee,” Juan Martin del Potro posted on Instagram.

The 2016 Rio Olympics silver-medalist genuinely wants to play the Tokyo Games this year and is determined to clinch a medal for his nation.

In 2020, Del Potro lost his father, who was aged 63, and this demise has left him in shambles.
“Of course, these last few weeks weren’t easy for me. Everything’s so hard since my father’s passing. But also, I feel the strength he sends me from above. I had this day in which I woke up and called the doctor. I knew I had to try again,” Del Potro mentioned. “I hope I can overcome this painful situation. I won’t stop trying. Of course, your messages and best wishes are always welcomed. Thanks for the love. Take care.”

In his quarterfinal 2019 Rome Masters battle against Novak Djokovic, he squandered two match points and lost the match in three hours to the Serbian legend.
However, a few weeks later, Del Potro slipped on the court during Queen’s Club Championships matchup against Denis Shapovalov, and his knee issues aggravated, and eventually, he withdrew from his following match.
I commentated both matches where Del Potro injured his knee (vs Coric in Shanghai in 2018 and vs Shapovalov Queen’s 2019). Neither situation looked that serious. One of the most unlucky tennis players ever. 8 surgeries since winning a first Grand Slam is absolutely insane.
