Most of the WTA players on the tour are certainly jealous of the Swiss professional Belinda Bencic. They envy her because, every year she got a chance to play mixed doubles with Roger Federer at Hopman Cup, whereas the other women couldn’t.
Till date, Federer remains the dream mixed doubles partner for most of the women on the circuit, and fortunately, very few women on the circuit have got that opportunity and Bencic is one of the lucky players.
In an interview with Swiss newspaper Blick, Bencic was asked on her mixed doubles ventures at the Tokyo Olympics 2021 alongside Federer. “Hope so! (laughs) If everything goes according to plan, I would be extremely happy,” said Bencic.

With the tour put on halt amid the coronavirus pandemic, Bencic is not optimistic regarding the tour kick-starting anytime soon. “It is very difficult to say. If it goes according to plan, the first tournaments would start in America in August. But the situation there is far from ideal. The WTA plans to announce further decisions in July. But to be honest, I don’t expect a tour soon,” she said.
With the travel restrictions and bans all over the world it is impossible to restart tennis in the upcoming few weeks. Also, she believes, the tennis events cannot be conducted under closed doors as it would have a drastic impact on the tournament’s revenue.

“Sometimes the borders are not open, or you would have to be in quarantine and then you will miss the next tournament. Logistically, it becomes very problematic. The tournaments are also not keen to host without an audience. At the moment everything is still speculation. We also don’t know how the virus will develop,” the Swiss player added.
