World Number one Ashleigh Barty made a convincing start of the season by lifting up the title in Adelaide and then losing a close semi-final match against the eventual champion Sofia Kenin at Australian Open 2020. Later, she lost to Petra Kvitova in semifinals of Qatar.
The reigning French Open champion Barty is skeptical about playing the North American hard-court summer tournaments this year provided they get underway amidst the on-going protests and pandemic ambiance.
The country of the USA has recorded nearly two million cases of coronavirus and more than 100 thousand people have lost their lives. And with the on-going wide-nation protests concerning racial discrimination, those conditions are simply unplayable to carry out tennis.

“But I’d need to understand all of the information. And advice from the WTA and the USTA before making a decision on the US events. It’s not just me, it’s my team and I have to consider.”
Also, World Number two and the defending champion Rafael Nadal believes it is not advisable to hold US Open this year. He is not interested in traveling to New York amidst all the turmoil.
