

The mother of former WBC lightweight champion Adonis Stevenson has come to her son’s rescue, by filing a lawsuit against his ex-girlfriend. The lawsuit states that his ex Simone God withdrew 891,000 $ from the boxer’s account without taking permission. Stevenson and God split in early December.

“What I can tell you is that Adonis is fine. He is well surrounded and advised. He will soon make a public statement to present his point of view on the situation. Simone God said many things from her perspective. Adonis will now be able to give his version,” said Yvon, Stevenson’s promoter.

“Adonis is not on the street”
Adonis’s career came to an end in December 2018, after a devasting knockout loss to Oleksandr Gvodsk. Stevenson suffered a brain bleed and was taken to a hospital after the fight. With his career coming to an end, the boxer has suffered financial losses mainly due to this incident.

“Adonis is not on the street, he still has a lot of money, but not enough for the rest of his life. In the past year, there has been a significant leakage of money, but the gap is now closed.” said Yvon
However, despite his losses his promoter assured he has money to sustain himself. This incident will certainly mount more problems for the fighter after all that he’s been through. Stevenson was placed in an induced coma for several weeks after his last fight . He made a steady recovery shortly after and moved to a facility in Canada to finish his rehabilitation.

Money troubles run rife in the combat sports world. Given how short a boxer’s career is financial issues are a regular occurrence for most boxers. With his career now behind him, we can only hope Stevenson recovers whatever money is lost.
